WA’s Recycled Glass Processor

About us

Glass Recycling plants

Waglass was created in 2019 to process glass from the WA Container Deposit Scheme.
Based in Bassendean, the site accepts all CDS glass from collection sites across WA. Our processing equipment includes automatic color sorters, Eddy Currents, dryers, crushers, and trommels, all centrally controlled and monitored. The plant operates 24 hours a day, 6 or 7 days a week depending on volumes received and employs 14 people.
In collaboration with Westbin, we collect all glass from the Perth and Wheatbelt areas participating in the CDS scheme.
Waglass also processes bottle glass from other sources in WA, as well as plate glass and windscreens from WA sources

Bottle glass

Our facility efficiently handles all glass collected from WA's numerous collection points, color sorting and processing it for supply to Orora for direct feed into their SA furnaces, where new bottles are made from the recycled material.

Plate Glass

Windows, glass panels, windscreens...

In addition to our primary role in processing CDS glass, Waglass also processes plate glass. After crushing, removing laminate, and thorough cleaning, we supply this glass to clients such as CSR and Orora, supporting the production of bottles and fiberglass insulation.
As a final step in our process, certain types of glass undergo drying, crushing, and screening, producing finely sized closely graded particles. These products find applications in various industries including filtration, sandblasting, and coating applications, contributing to the sustainable utilization of resources and meeting diverse market needs.

Our Recycling goal

Both Plate Glass and Bottles are products valued at over $1000 per tonne. Recycling these products back into aggregate substitutes for fill applications or as drainage and road base is not a good use of this resource. Ideally, all recycling should return products to other products of at least their original value.
By supplying our recycled product to Orora and CSR, we achieve this goal. Similarly, our other products are in markets with values of several hundred dollars per tonne. Whilst we do return some glass to fill applications (less than 0.5% of our product), it is almost always due to high ceramic contents rendering it unusable for high-value applications, and would have non-glass levels of under 1%. This compares with fill glass or road base from other organizations in WA, where contamination levels of paper and plastic can be as high as 15% by weight.
Typically, Waglass would achieve recycling levels in excess of 99% for bottle glass, 95% for plate glass, and 85% for windscreens. Any waste is responsibly disposed of at approved facilities
